Matthew Hale - Tenor
Biography

Matthew Hale is 24 years old. He was raised in Hertfordshire, where his practical music studies began at the age of eight. He was inspired to start learning the trumpet ofter watching Hakan Hardenberger perform on telelvision, his piano studies followed shortly. It wasn't until the age of 18 however that Matthew first sang on stage. He played the role of Simon Zealotes in a school production of the Famous Andrew Lloyd Weber rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar. After completing A Level study, Matthew was successul in gaining a place at the famous Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, London. He studied for one year on a unique new singing course. A further year of A level and practical musicianship training followed his year of stagecraft.

He accepted a place at University College Northampton to study Music and Business. At the end of his first year of study he was awarded the Ryan Mckewen King Memorial bursary for achieving excellence in music performance, practically and academically. He spent the summer of 2000 attending the Dartington International Summer School. At the summer school, he attended many workshops and concerts but in particular was able to take part in masterclasses with Adrian Thompson (Tenor) and Nicholas Clapton (Counter-Tenor) both very well known and respected.

He built on his successful first year at University by continuing to improve his grades in both music and business. In his second year at university he was offered the opportunity to study with Adrian Clarke (Baritone). Matthew's vocal potential was clear and with the help of Adrian and persitent high academic achievement he was awarded a first class honours degree in 2002.

He is currently pursuing his musical training at Birmingham Conservatoire with Adrian Clarke on an Advanced study year while he continues to improve and assess his options.
