Lois Johnston is Lancashire-born, but began her musical training in Yorkshire where she sang soprano with the
Huddersfield Choral Society. She then moved to Glasgow where she studied at the R.S.A.M.D. She now lives in Malvern and
London and still performs in Scotland with groups such as the Dunedin Consort, the John Currie Singers, Ludus Baroque
and Ludus Opera, as well as recitals and oratorio at home and abroad. Her singing engagements have taken her all over the continent, and
as far afield as Australia where she toured performing Mozart Requiems and Messiahs. Her repertoire is varied, ranging from early music to
opera and on to contemporary works making her a versatile and popular performer. Recent solo performances include the St. John and St. Matthew Passions
by Bach, Cinq Rechants by Messiaen, Pot of Basil by Cresswell and Handel's Messiah. For the BBC proms last
year, she sang with the Choir of Enlightenment in Bach's B minor mass directed by Sir Roger Norrington, and Wagner's Parsifal under Sir Simon Rattle.
Operatic roles include Susannah, Despina and the title role in Janacek's "Cunning Little Vixen". She is also a founder member of 4-4 Voices, who perform a
variety of opera, oratorio and song to popular acclaim.
