Janet was born in Kent and graduated with a PhD in Microbiology from King’s College London, whilst studying singing with Marjorie Thomas. Having graduated with distinction in her postgraduate diploma from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2002, Janet is continuing with a further year at the Conservatoire to study with Sarah Pring. Last summer she won a bursary to sing for Diane Forlano at the Gregynog Festival Masterclasses.
Her recent engagements have included Elgar’s Sea Pictures, Rachmaninov’s Vespers in St Giles Cripplegate, London; Tippett’s A Child of Our Time, Durufle’s Requiem, Handel’s Samson, Copland’s In the Beginning in the Canterbury Festival and Vaughan William’s Serenade to Music at St John’s Smith Square, London.
Operatic performances have included Arnalta in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronatione di Poppea, Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors and Bianca in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia. Janet also enjoys ensemble work and sang Reich’s Tehillim with the Conservatoire Contemporary Ensemble in January 2002 and was a chorus member in Mid-Wales Opera’s production of Verdi’s La Traviata.
